That\u2019s the No. 1 reason people share content, according to Chadwick Martin Bailey:<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\"><sup style=\"vertical-align: super;\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Because I find it <strong>interesting\/entertaining<\/strong>: 72%<\/li>\n<li>Because I think it will be <strong>helpful to recipients<\/strong>: 58%<\/li>\n<li><strong>To get a laugh<\/strong>: 58%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Another approach: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyliecomm.com\/2022\/02\/emotional-content\/\">Reach readers on an emotional level<\/a>, according to a study of most-shared content at <em>The New York Times.<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>Want to write high-quality content that gets your stories read and your organization followed? Here are three ways for making all kinds of content marketing efforts more interesting and entertaining.<\/p>\n<h3>Steal from the FBI.<\/h3>\n<p>That is, steal techniques for writing entertaining tweets from @FBIPressOffice.<\/p>\n<p>OK, granted, the FBI material is great. You\u2019re probably not writing about bad cops, undercover stings and dog-fighting rings. But here are some tricks any of us can use:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Write mini-heads<\/strong>. When used with captions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyliecomm.com\/writing-tips\/micro-content\/how-to-write-a-caption\/\">two- to four-word \u201ccatchlines\u201d<\/a> draw attention and increase readership. I suspect the clever, feature-y mini-heads on these tweets \u2014 \u201cGotcha!,\u201d \u201cA Dangerous Betrayal\u201d and \u201cBodies of Evidence,\u201d for instance \u2014 do the same thing.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"standalone\">\u201cGotcha!: Bad Cops Caught, Part II: Five cops go bad in Memphis, Tennessee, and the FBI worked with police. http:\/\/bit.ly\/d4M1h\u201d<\/h5>\n<h5 class=\"standalone\">\u201cA DANGEROUS BETRAYAL: The Case of the Cash Hungry Contractor: An undercover sting helped prevent a federal energ\u2026 http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/lzvnrp\u201d<\/h5>\n<h5 class=\"standalone\">\u201cCANINE CRUELTY: Five-State Dog Fighting Ring Busted: A year-long multi-agency investigation results in approxima\u2026 http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/mffmh6\u201d<\/h5>\n<p><strong>2. Find the drama<\/strong>. You\u2019re sharing a story, right? Not just promoting your products or services?<br \/>\nIf so, then something interesting must be happening here. If not, your problem isn\u2019t the writing, it\u2019s the content. Reconsider your tweet.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"standalone\">\u201cCRIME FROM BEHIND BARS: The Case of the Con Turned Con Artist: Inside a two-year identity theft and bribery scheme \u2026 http:\/\/bit.ly\/c4AfNq\u201d<\/h5>\n<p><strong>3. Push the verb<\/strong>. Remember, <a href=\"https:\/\/revvingupreadership.com\/2019\/11\/dynamic-verb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the verb is the story<\/a>. Verbs like \u201cgo bad,\u201d \u201cbusted\u201d and \u201cexploit\u201d tell good stories. Verbs like \u201cannounce\u201d and \u201cintroduces\u201d just point to the noun.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"standalone\">\u201cFraudsters Continue to Exploit Telecommunication Relay Services http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/n6jkdg\u201d<\/h5>\n<p>Plus, research by Dan Zarrella shows that tweets containing novel words tend to be retweeted more often than those that don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Choose interesting nouns<\/strong>. Verbs are the story, but nouns help, too. \u201cSting,\u201d \u201cring,\u201d \u201cbad cops,\u201d \u201cbody farm\u201d and \u201cfraudsters\u201d are fascinating nouns.<\/p>\n<p>Phrases like \u201cYear-long multi-agency investigation\u201d are not. <a href=\"https:\/\/revvingupreadership.com\/visual-thesaurus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Use Visual Thesaurus<\/a> and other tools to choose more like the former and fewer like the latter.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"standalone\">\u201cBODIES OF EVIDENCE: Part 1: FBI Trains at Body Farm: Every year, 40 Evidence Response Team members arrive on a w\u2026 http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/kjla6l\u201d<\/h5>\n<p><strong>5. Follow <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/FBI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@FBI<\/a> to find ideas and inspiration for your own tweets.<\/p>\n<h3>Tweet like WADOT.<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wsdot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Washington State Department of Transportation Twitter feed<\/a> brings a sense of humor to public service announcements and other official communications. Take a tip from these tweets when creating content of your own:<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"standalone\">\u201c@blowdart Doh! We\u2019ll do better next time. We feel the same way about \u2018daylight-saving time\u2019 \u2013 hyphenated, no S.\u201d<\/h5>\n<h5 class=\"standalone\">\u201cPSA O\u2019day: It\u2019s not the luck of the Irish that\u2019ll get you home safely; it\u2019s a cabby or DD. You heard me. I said humor \u2026 IT blog. There is no way out unless you follow the instructions\u2026<\/p>\n<p>I read the rules for creating my new password:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The password must be between 6 and 8 characters inclusive<\/li>\n<li>No single character can be repeated more than twice<\/li>\n<li>There must be at least 1 alpha and 1 non-alpha character in the password<\/li>\n<li>Passwords must include at least 4 unique characters<\/li>\n<li>You can not re-use old passwords for 24 months<\/li>\n<li>Passwords can not include your username<\/li>\n<li>Passwords must have at least 4 different characters from previous password<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It was harder than soduko. Like many people I struggle to remember all my passwords \u2026 so I tend to choose passwords with a theme to make them more memorable.<\/p>\n<p>This one was fiendish. What theme could I use that would include a non-repeating cycle of 24, as well as having at least 4 different characters different each time and still not exceeding 8 characters all together?<\/p>\n<p>What about the names of my childhood pets plus the phone numbers of my former girlfriends in sequential order? \u2026 No, that wouldn\u2019t work \u2026 I didn\u2019t have 24 different pets (shame I didn\u2019t bother naming all the Guinea Pig\u2019s offspring) \u2026 Or enough girlfriends.<\/p>\n<p>How about the registration numbers of all the cars I ever owned or drove? \u2026 No, still not 24 and too much repetition \u2026<\/p>\n<p>I pondered the problem. I went to get a cup of coffee. I came back.<\/p>\n<p>Got it! \u2026<\/p>\n<p>I could use non-consecutive numbers in the Fibonacci sequence combined with the 15 noun declension case endings in Finnish based on the Finnish word for \u201cPassword.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Write entertaining content marketing campaigns.<\/h3>\n<p>To reach your target audience, use these techniques for all of your content creation? Good writing is good writing regardless of the types of content, whether you\u2019re writing a blog post or a brochure, a tweet or a treatise.<\/p>\n<p>So write interesting, entertaining, funny digital marketing pieces.
