Then they ran the posts through a quantitative model that predicts which posts will generate more engagement \u2014\u00a0aka likes, comments and shares.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/adage.com\/article\/digital\/facebook-brands-posting-stuff-wrong\/234580\/\"target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brand-related posts perform best<\/a>, the researchers found. But not all brand-related posts: Product and service promotions didn\u2019t fare well in the study.<\/p>\n<p>So:<\/p>\n<h3>Don\u2019t go off brand.<\/h3>\n<p>Non-brand-related posts \u2014 \u201cHang in there everybody. They\u2019re not looking for urgent updates about your Widget 6.3.7.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>How-to information<\/strong>: 58%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Entertainment<\/strong>: 53%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Opinion<\/strong>: 50%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Products<\/strong>: 45%<\/li>\n<li><strong>Small talk<\/strong>: 12%<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Want more retweets? Pack blog posts and status updates with tips and techniques.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Avoid too much chatting.<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/danzarrella.com\/new-data-what-percentage-of-your-tweets-should-be-links-or-replies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tweeters who send a lot of @ replies are less likely to get retweeted<\/a> than those who chit-chat less, according to another study by Zarrella. Aim for about 10% \u201c@\u201d replies among your tweets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt makes sense when you think about it,\u201d Zarrella writes. \u201cI\u2019m much more likely to retweet an interesting piece of content that you\u2019ve posted than a bit of Twitter chit-chat, especially when that chit-chat is part of an ongoing conversation of which I\u2019m not a part.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>4. Don\u2019t answer \u2018What are you doing?\u2019<\/h3>\n<p><em>What are you doing? <\/em>That question has launched a gazillion tweets.
