the kicker, to make your point memorable. The best conclusions, in conclusion, summarize then illustrate your key point.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Draw to a close in the wrapup.<\/h3>\n<p>You\u2019ve heard the phrase: Tell \u2019em what you\u2019re going to tell \u2019em, tell \u2019em, then tell \u2019em what you\u2019ve told \u2019em.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s pause and ponder <em>that <\/em>for a minute too.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyliecomm.com\/writing-tips\/how-to-organize-an-article\/feature-story-structure\/nut-graph\/\"><strong>nut graph<\/strong><\/a> is where you tell \u2019em what you\u2019re going to tell \u2019em.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyliecomm.com\/writing-tips\/how-to-organize-an-article\/feature-story-structure\/feature-article-structure\/\"><strong>body<\/strong><\/a> paragraphs are where you tell \u2019em.<\/li>\n<li><strong>And the wrapup<\/strong> is where you tell \u2019em what you\u2019ve told \u2019em.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Start your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyliecomm.com\/writing-tips\/how-to-organize-an-article\/feature-story-structure\/how-to-write-a-conclusion-for-a-feature-article\/\">conclusion<\/a> with a wrapup. This is where you make your final point about the subject.<\/p>\n<p>You remember learning to do this for high school research papers: To write an essay conclusion, restate your thesis statement. Then the teacher reading your paper knew what your point was.<\/p>\n<p>To write a wrapup, simply copy and paste the nut graph, then massage. The tone of the wrapup is, \u201cNow that I\u2019ve given you all this information, you can only agree with me that [key point].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you have a call to action, that goes into the nut graph, too.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how it works, in a story by Caren at the Workers Compensation Board-Alberta.<\/p>\n<div class=\"excerptbox dropshadow\">\n<strong>[Lead] <\/strong>In Canada, overdose deaths involving prescription medications now vastly outnumber deaths from HIV. By some estimates, prescription drug overdoses have killed 100,000 North Americans over the past 20 years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>[Nut graph] <\/strong>Good opioid claim management can literally save an injured worker\u2019s life, but it isn\u2019t easy. Here\u2019s what you can do for your injured worker to help keep them, and you, on course.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>[Wrapup] <\/strong>Solid opioid claim management prevents addiction and overdoses and in essence, can save a claimant\u2019s life.\n<\/div>\n<h3>2. End with a bang in the kicker.<\/h3>\n<p>The job of the kicker is to leave a lasting impression. Where the lead \u2014 aka introductory paragraph or essay hook \u2014 draws readers in with concrete, creative, provocative details, the kicker uses the same approaches to let readers go.<\/p>\n<p>So make your kicker, or conclusion paragraph:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Concrete. <\/strong>Choose a telling detail for the end of the piece. It should reveal new meaning about the topic, even as you close.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Creative.<\/strong> Steal techniques from fiction writers including anecdotes, metaphors, wordplay, human interest and juicy details.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Provocative.<\/strong> Provoke a question in the reader\u2019s mind so she keeps thinking about your story long after she\u2019s finished the last paragraph.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You might even consider coming full circle back to the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how it works, in Caren\u2019s story:<\/p>\n<div class=\"excerptbox dropshadow\"><strong>[Lead] <\/strong>In Canada, overdose deaths involving prescription medications now vastly outnumber deaths from HIV.
