But one surprising statistic can set up your PR piece beautifully.<\/p>\n<p>But you don\u2019t have to tell PRSA\u2019s <a title=\"Silver Anvil Award\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prsa.org\/conferences-and-awards\/awards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Silver Anvil Award<\/a> winners. They use statistics to sell their ideas:<\/p>\n<h3>From the sad \u2026<\/h3>\n<p>AT&amp;T uses startling stats in its release \u201cNearly Half of Commuters Admit to Texting While Driving\u201d:<\/p>\n<div class=\"excerptbox\" style=\"border:1px solid black;\">\n<p>Nearly half of commuters self-reported texting while driving in a recent poll, and 43% of those who did called it a \u201chabit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Commuters are texting and driving even more than teens \u2014 49%, compared to 43%. And the problem has gotten worse. Six in 10 commuters say they never texted while driving three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>So while efforts to raise awareness of the dangers of texting while driving are working \u2014 98% of commuters surveyed said they know sending a text or email while driving isn\u2019t safe \u2014 there\u2019s clearly more work to be done to change behaviors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>And Visa, in this Reading Is Fundamental lead:<\/p>\n<div class=\"excerptbox\" style=\"border:1px solid black;\">Today, more than 40% percent of fourth-grade children read below the basic level for their grade. Each time you use your Visa card, Visa will make a donation to Reading Is Fundamental \u2026<\/div>\n<h3>\u2026 to the sick \u2026<\/h3>\n<p>Alliance to Advance Patient Nutrition leads with the numbers in its release \u201c<a title=\"Alliance to Advance Patient Nutrition\" href=\"http:\/\/malnutrition.com\/commentary\/pressrelease\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Leading Healthcare Organizations Launch Interdisciplinary Partnership: The Alliance to Advance Patient Nutrition<\/a>\u201d:<\/p>\n<div class=\"excerptbox\" style=\"border:1px solid black;\">\n<p>Today, one in three patients enter the hospital malnourished and more become malnourished during their stay. With policy changes in the U.S. health care system driving an increased focus on high quality and affordable care, there is an urgent need to address the pervasive issue of hospital malnutrition and ensure that nutrition therapy is a critical component of patient care.<\/p>\n<p>Five prestigious health care organizations today jointly announce the launch of a new interdisciplinary partnership, the Alliance to Advance Patient Nutrition. The Alliance\u2019s mission is to improve patient outcomes through nutrition intervention in the hospital.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>So does Novartis Animal Health, in this Deramaxx lead:<\/p>\n<div class=\"excerptbox\" style=\"border:1px solid black;\">Every day, each of the 25,000 U.S. veterinary clinics will get, on average, a visit from two arthritic dogs. Odds are, one of those dogs will leave the clinic untreated, still suffering in silent pain. More than 10 million dogs (that\u2019s one in five adult dogs) suffer from osteoarthritis.<\/div>\n<h3>\u2026 to the sublime \u2026<\/h3>\n<p>Cisco starts with compelling numbers in its blog post \u201c<a title=\"The Internet of Everything is the New Economy\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cisco.com\/c\/en\/us\/solutions\/collateral\/enterprise\/cisco-on-cisco\/Cisco_IT_Trends_IoE_Is_the_New_Economy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Internet of Everything is the New Economy<\/a>\u201d:<\/p>\n<div class=\"excerptbox\" style=\"border:1px solid black;\">\n<p>The Internet of Everything (IoE) is potentially the biggest business opportunity in the history of mankind. Research firm IDC predicts that this massive shift will generate nearly US$9 trillion in annual sales by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>By comparison, the total annual sales of the San Francisco Bay Area\u2019s 150 largest technology companies in 2012 were $677 billion. The total revenue of the consumer electronics industry in 2013 was about $1.1 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>A study conducted by General Electric concluded that the Internet of Things (IoT) over the next 20 years could add as much as $15 trillion to the global gross domestic product (GDP), roughly \u201cthe size of today\u2019s U.S. economy.\u201d Of the $19 trillion in profits and cost savings projected over the next decade, Cisco\u00ae estimates that $14.4 trillion will be new private-sector profits, and $4.6 trillion will come from public-sector cost savings and new revenues.<\/p>\n<p>In its study, General Electric positions the IoE trend \u201cmuch like the industrial revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries, when mechanized manufacturing made mass-produced goods possible, and rural residents flooded into cities.\u201d The study adds, \u201cWe are at the cusp of another wave of innovation that promises to change the way we do business and interact with the world of industrial machines.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>\u2026 to the ridiculous.<\/h3>\n<p>Gillette uses startling stats in its media alert &#8220;Gillette asks Houston couples to &#8216;Kiss &amp; Tell&#8217; in live national experiment and tell the world their preference \u2014 a smooth shaven or stubbled kiss&#8221;:<\/p>\n<div class=\"excerptbox\" style=\"border:1px solid black;\">Research shows that people are kissing less than ever and that 66% of women have avoided kissing a guy because he had facial hair.
