But 34% of the most shared stories were features.<\/p>\n<p>Vasantola analyzed the most-shared stories from three European news sites:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The BBC<\/li>\n<li><em>Helsingin Sanomat<\/em>, the largest subscription newspaper in Finland<\/li>\n<li>Yleisradio, a Finnish media company<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Features most shared.<\/h3>\n<p>Here\u2019s what she learned:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Features were the most shared articles at <em>Helsingin Sanomat<\/em><\/strong>. 34% of the most-shared stories were features. But 85% of the articles the newspaper publishes are news stories, and just 15% are features.<\/li>\n<li><strong>News articles and videos were the most shared at the BBC<\/strong>. 23% of the most-shared pieces were feature articles.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features were the most-shared Yleisradio pieces<\/strong>. 55% of the most-shared pieces were features.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Want to get shared more often? Vasantola suggests that you write stories that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Combine personal angles with national or international perspectives.<\/strong> People want stories about individuals as well as facts and statistics.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Evoke feelings \u2014 especially positive ones.<\/strong> \u201cPure facts and figures are not enough; people want the facts to be served with emotions and stories of individuals, but stories that cleverly combine (inter)national and personal details,\u201d Vasantola says.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make it relevant<\/strong>.
