Give equal emphasis to items of equal importance.<\/h3>\n<p>Give all &#8220;level one&#8221; headlines the same type treatment, and treat all &#8220;level two&#8221; subheads the same. That way, readers can determine the topic&#8217;s weight and hierarchy at a glance.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Contrast subheads from text, other display copy.<\/h3>\n<p>Make sure readers can&#8217;t mistake subheads for body copy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyliecomm.com\/writing-tips\/how-to-create-micro-content\/pull-quote\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">callouts<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyliecomm.com\/writing-tips\/how-to-create-micro-content\/double-deck-headline\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">decks<\/a>. To make the contrast clear, you might use:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Font<\/li>\n<li>Type style<\/li>\n<li>Type size<\/li>\n<li>Color<\/li>\n<li>Alignment<\/li>\n<li>Graphic accents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>3. Save the widows and orphans.<\/h3>\n<p>Don&#8217;t end a column or page with a subhead. Instead, make sure there are at least three lines of body copy before a column or page break.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Keep them short.<\/h3>\n<p>Don\u2019t take the \u201cmicro\u201d out of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyliecomm.com\/writing-tips\/how-to-create-micro-content\/\">microcontent<\/a>: Limit subheads to one line. Longer, and they\u2019ll start looking like text, not display copy.
