writes Malcolm Gladwell in <em>Blink<\/em>. But &#8220;all that extra information isn\u2019t actually an advantage at all \u2026 In fact [it&#8217;s] more than useless. It\u2019s harmful. It confuses the issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Increase reading by 33%.<\/h3>\n<p>Wilbur Schramm, the \u201cfather of communication studies,\u201d was one of the first people to study the effect of story length on reading. Bottom line: The longer your piece, the less of it they&#8217;ll read.<\/p>\n<h3>Leave them wanting more.<\/h3>\n<p>In his Broadway musical \u201cFame Becomes Me,\u201d Martin Short quotes another Broadway actor as saying, \u201cLeave them wanting less.\u201d This study shows that the reverse is, of course, better advice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Want people to read more of your piece? Make it shorter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id='MC-CTC-CTC' class='widgets_on_page wop_tiny1  wop_small1  wop_medium1  wop_large1  wop_wide1'>\n\t\t\t<ul><li id=\"custom_html-11\" class=\"widget_text widget widget_custom_html\"><div class=\"textwidget custom-html-widget\"><h3>How long should your message be?<\/h3>\r\n<p>Would your message be twice as good if it were half as long?<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Yes, the research says.
