But  nothing helps your readers <em>see<\/em> your  subject like analogy.<\/p>\n<h3>Or hear it.<\/h3>\n<p>In <em>Double Image,<\/em> David Morrell wrote:<\/p>\n<h5>&#8220;The voice chuckled, its  crustiness reminding Coltrane<br \/>\nof a boot stomping dried mud.&#8221;<\/h5>\n<h3>Or feel it.<\/h3>\n<p>Kurt  Vonnegut wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5>&#8220;He shuddered gently,<br \/>\nas though a  small motor were idling inside.&#8221;<\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Or taste it.<\/h3>\n<p>How  could anyone ever choose a bottle of wine without analogy? Yesterday, I had a  glass of Spanish Grenache that was described as tasting like &#8220;smoked  cherries.&#8221; (Mmmmmmm \u2026 <em>smoked  cherries.)<\/em> I love the wine descriptions on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vinesugar.com\/notes\/review.php?id=671\" target=\"_blank\">Vinesugar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the best  analogy for taste is Raymond Chandler&#8217;s line:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h5>&#8220;I lit a cigarette [that]\ntasted like a plumber\u2019s handkerchief.&#8221;<\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Yuck!<\/p>\n<p class=\"text_h4\">Describing something?
